Birthing  From Within

Peace and Blessings, we are so pleased you have navigated your way to this site.  Empress Tintawi is a traditional labor coach.  She has attended three births outside of her own.

The first birth she attended was in 2005 for a family in Shashamane, Ethiopia.  During early labor Empress Tintawi assisted the couple by taking care of their four year old son, so the couple could spend time together.  As her labor progressed Empress Tintawi went to the clinic where the mother was giving birth.  She assisted the mother by comforting her emotionally, massaging her back throughout rushes.  Assuring her that everything she was experiencing was normal and healthy during labor.   Because Empress Tintawi and this family shared the same faith she was also able to pray and offer spiritual support. The mother was released from the clinic shortly after giving birth, with her placenta wrapped up in cloths to be burried later in the family garden.  Empress Tintawi, traveled with the family back to their home where she assisted some of the family friends with cleaning, taking care of her older son, and offering emotional support to the entire family.  She also provided post partum support to the family beginning two days after the birth.

The second birth attended by Empress Tintawi was in February of 2008 in Bergen County, New Jersey.  A week prior to when the mother went into labor Empress Tintawi was called to the home of the family because the mother was having consistent rushes.  She stayed with the mother the entire day talking to her, walking with her, bringing her herbs to assist with labor and playing with her other five children.  On the day the mother went into actual labor Empress Tintawi was with the family from approximately 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.   Her husband, Ras Isatu watched the family's 5 children and our 2 children throughout the birthing process.  Tintawi offered physical and emotional support, assisting the family through each stage of labor.   A beautiful baby girl was born under her care.  Her father cut her cord after it had stopped pulsating and mother had already begun nursing.  Tintawi was very grateful for the opportunity to work with this family and to assist them on their birthing journey.

The third birth attended by Empress Tintawi was on August 4, 2008.  I was assisting Midwife Sakina O'ohuru.  I met with the couple, aproximately one week before she the expectant mother went into labor.  They are a wonderful, couple who were expecting their first baby.  I arrived at the couples house at about 10:30pm.  The midwife had been there from about 1:00 pm.  It was a long labor.  The mother tried various labor positions and rested inbetween contractions.  The mother alos took homeopathic medicine to help her cervix to open.  Both the midwife and I apllied massage, loving words, gentle touches and encouragement as the mother progressed through transition.  A Beautiful baby girl named Sky was born at 4:10 am on August 4th.

Empress Tintawi knows the most important thing to expectant parents is the safe arrival of their creation.  Empress Tintawi, is available to assist with births in any setting, although her preference is in nature and at home.

Empress Tintawi also has personal experience with pregnancy and birthing.  The KaIgziabiher family has two beautiful princes, her first prince Noh Menyelek KaIgziabiher was born in a birthing center in NJ in December of 2003.  She spent the early part of the day laboring at home and then her mothers home.  She arrived at the Hospital's birthing center at 8 1/2 centimeters. Both her mother and her mother-in-law were present in the delivery room.  Her husband was her source of support and she found herself squuezing his hand with rushes and  gazing into his eyes during transition.  She also focused on a picture of her spiritual guide Emperor Haile Selassie I during transition.  Although it was a relatively natural birth (with the exception of and IV)  she longed for the intimacy of a home birth.  It was her first birthing experience that encouraged her to explore a life long passion of assisting women during childbirth.

Her second prince, Aum Laylael-Amen KaIgziabiher was born at home after 1 1/2 hours of laboring.   She had an unassissted birth where just she and her husband were present.  At this birth she was able to get into any position she needed and had the comfort and freedom only home can give.  She was loved and massaged by her husband throughout the labor and during transition they chanted Aum together.  Eight days after he was born the baby was given the name Aum, because it was this chant that carried him into the physical realm.

She nursed her first born until hle was 2 1/2 years old and is currently nursing her 20 month old.  She loves to reason with interested parents about all of the wonderful benefits of nursing.
